Quilled Bison Horn Ladle - Elk Effigy Quilled Bison Horn Ladle - Elk Effigy

A beautiful and unusual piece of porcupine qullwork. The ladle is made out of polished bison horn. The elk head is the tip of the horn. The elk antlers and ears are separate carved pieces. The handle is wrapped using the traditional quilled plaiting technique in red and yellow. Attached is a red-quilled buckskin dangle finished with yellow horsehair tips. We obtained this from Alan Monroe, a Lakota pipecarver who make many of our beautiful catlinte pipes, but we do not believe he is the artist who made this. This is a large piece, approximately 10 inches overall.
