Native Americans - Edward S. Curtis

Native Americans - Edward S. Curtis

by Edward S Curtis

At the turn of the century, the American photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868–1952) started on his 30-year project to produce a monumental study of North American Indians. Using an approach that was both artistically and scientifically ambitious he recorded, in words and pictures, the traces of the traditional Indian way of life that was already beginning to die out. The most important images of Curtis' work have been included in this compact homage to the great photographer.

Matoska Trading Company:
When the Edward Curtis photos were "rediscovered" a couple of decades ago, it was a watershed event for historians as so many amazing photos were made available. Unfortunately, so many books have been published featuring Curtis' photos that they now appear commonplace. If you already have a bunch of books on Curtis, then skip this one. It does not really cover any new ground. If you don't, it is definitely the nicest collection for the price and you should pick one up. A great starter book on Curtis.
