Product Restrictions. Can you legally order that product?
The vast majority of items we offer are legal for sale in all states and most countries. However, some of the products we sell are from animals or plants and may not be legal for you to purchase in your home state or country.

To the best of our knowledge, all the items we offer are legal for sale in the state of California. However, fish and game laws change regularly and it is very hard for us to keep current. Since it is difficult for us to keep up with the laws in our own state, you can understand why it is impossible for us to know the laws applicable to your state our country.

handrigh.gif (373 bytes) Therefore, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be familiar with the laws of your state or country. Matoska Trading Company is in no way offering to sell you a product which is not legal for you to purchase, import, or possess. You are responsible for any fines or penalties imposed should you purchase a product you cannot legally buy from us. You also agree to release us from any liability for providing such products.

Now that it sounds like we're selling illicit goods, perhaps we should explain a little. Sometimes, items which seem ordinary may actually be protected or restricted in some places. For example, while turkey feathers are legal in California, we understand they are restricted in some southern states. Sometimes the laws border on the bizarre. Products from elk such as leather and antler are legal in most states, however elk are protected in California. We cannot sell whole elk antler, but it's OK to sell elk antler pieces for belt buckles and the like. Go figure. At one point, it was illegal to sell porcupine quills in California because they were a "part" of a non-game mammal. But it was OK to sell the whole porcupine skin which has thousands of quills attached because it was the whole skin and not a "part." As you can see, the laws can be very intricate.

Because we don't want to cause problems for our customers (or for ourselves), we would appreciate receiving notification of the laws applicable to your state if you are familiar with them, especially if you work for an enforcement agency. Please send us copies of the laws and regulations. We'll post a list and make sure we don't ship restricted products to those locales.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell eagle feathers and if not, where can I buy them?

No, and you can't. All raptors including eagle, hawk, and owl are protected in the Unites States and most of North America. You cannot buy, sell, barter, or otherwise obtain any part of these birds including feathers and talons. There are exceptions for Native Americans enrolled in recognized tribes when used for religious purposes but that's about it. We are not legal experts, so do your own homework on the subject. We do offer some very nice imitation raptor feathers which are made from white turkey feathers and are hand-painted to look like the real thing.

Do you sell real bear claws?

No. All bear parts including claws are illegal for sale in California. They are legal in other states so check with your local fish and game department. We do offer some excellent replicas of black bear and grizzly bear which are perfect for craft projects.
