The Burdick Collection
Features objects contained in the Usher Burdick Collection at the North Dakota State Historical Society. Most of the pieces were made shortly after reservations were created and the Indian people relocated onto them. The artisans belonged to the generation that witnessed this move. Expressions of the transition from a nomadic lifestyle based on hunting and gathering to a sedentary lifestyle based on a cash economy are evident in many of their handcrafts.
Included are photos of moccasins, shirts, pipebags, parfleche, baby carriers, and much more. Also includes historic photos of Plains Indians. The Lakota is the primary focus of this collection.
