Yellowhammer

Yellowhammer, a traditional Southern style singing group from north central Oklahoma, consists of members of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma and the OtoeŚMissouria Tribe of Oklahoma. Originally formed in 1990 as the Fort Oakland Ramblers, the group began to travel outside Oklahoma in 1992, and quickly established a nationwide reputation for good Southern Plains singing and for the beautiful new songs composed by members of their up. As Fort Oakland, they were selected to be a host drum at the Seminole Tribal powwwow in Florida, the Stanford Powwow in California, and at fhe Mashantucket Pequot Schemitzun 93 in Connecticut.

In 1994, the group changed their name to Yellowhammer, and have continued fo bring their new compositions and traditional songs to celebrations across the U.S. including the UCLA Powwow in Los Angeles, the ASU Powwow in Tempe, the Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, the Hinckley, Prairie Island, Red Lake and Shakopee powwows in Minnesota, and Schemitzun 94.
