| Commercial - Deer - Full Skins
Commercial tan deer is the most commonly used leather for Native American crafts and is generally called "buckskin." By commercial tan, we mean that the hide as been prepared using a mechanical process and chemicals as opposed to the braintanning method which is done by hand using the brains of the animal.Commercial tan is far more economical than braintan and is suitable for a wide range of projects. We carry a variety of grades and colors which vary frequently. If you need special material for a project and you don't see it on our web site, please email us to check for availability. We can obtain many items on a special order basis that we don't regularly stock.

Commercial Tan Buckskin - Gold Color - Good
Good quality buckskin that is gold in color. Excellent for most small to medium craft projects like moccasins and bags. Most of these skins have a hole or two so may not be suitable for projects where you need large, perfect areas. If you need perfect skins for clothing projects, we suggest you get the select quality instead. These are generally full hides with a smooth side and a suede side. Smaller pieces (usually under 8 feet) may be partial skins. The smooth side typically has a few drag marks or other scars which is normal because deer usually encounter barbed wire fences and other natural and man-made elements. Our current stock is a little heavier than most buckskin we have, about midway between average buckskin and elk. Note that we sell these hides by the square foot. This ensures that you receive what you pay for. Since hides vary in size (both larger and smaller), your actual price may vary about 10 - 15% from the amount shown. If you need specific dimensions for your project, please be sure to note them in the "special instructions" field on the order form so we can select the proper hide for you. Please note that the photo is a "stock" image of our gold buckskin for color comparison and shows a select skin. The actual product may have some holes and will not look as perfect as what is shown.
