Indian School Days
This is the humorous, bittersweet autobiography of an Ojibway who was taken from his family in 1939 at age ten and placed in a Jesuit boarding school in northern Ontario. The school was intended to educate and assimilate Basil Johnston and his fellow Indian classmates, but the boys learned instead to create a subculture of survival that helped them cope with this alien setting.
